After retiring from teaching art quilting for 20 years she is continuing her art adventure in fibers and mixed media collage paintings. She is a member of the Tri-State Arts Association and the Innovative Fiber Artists Network. DESCRIPTION:One of our first events to look forward to in the new year will be a drive-through showing of our latest installation\, the Alley Gallery\, on January 27th. Thanks to the contributions of the Governor’s School of the Arts from the summer of 2023\, this outdoor exhibit on the Northern exterior of West Edge will showcase paintings from young artists from across West Virginia. Expect plenty of hot cocoa and live music as well as a chance to learn about the artists and the inspiration behind these wonderful paintings.

DESCRIPTION:Join us and learn to make shibori\, the ancient Japanese art of paper felting. \n\n\n\nInstructor: Leigh E McDonald\, Mixed Media\, Fiber Artist and Author \n  \nInstagram: @leighemcdonald \n  \nWe will be painting 3 different types of papers for collage\, scrapbooking\, or art journaling. The popular term for these papers is Collage Fodder. We will paint papers with bubbles\, make tissue paper in a variety of colors and make shibori paper (folded and dyed with inks or paints). The techniques are fun and unusual. Leigh uses these papers in her acrylic collage paintings and other projects. You can see some of her work on Instagram. In this exhibit\, Rachel’s fantasy inspired works provide a unique commentary on West Virginia and issues that resonate with its residents through ideological and physical states of decay and new growth. October is the perfect month to introduce yourself to this amazing artist. \nAbout the Artist\nRachel is a creator living in wild and wonderful West Virginia. She has lived in her old farmhouse with her wife\, Sarah\, for years now. Rachel left the city for the edge of the woods to bring her closer to both her family and the natural world. Her work focuses on the intersection of the everyday and the surreal. She creates whimsical paintings often focused on personal growth and societal issues. Described through natural elements. Growing up in a remote area\, she quickly learned that having a vivid imagination made for more exciting adventures.
