Free and open to the public.\n\nArt From Within is a vibrant arts program for adults with disabilities housed at the West Edge Factory. In a community workshop setting\, artists come together to explore themes through clay\, printmaking\, mosaic sculpture\, and a wide variety of 2D painting and drawing mediums.\nThe program runs annually from March through December and culminates in a public exhibition held in the Turret Gallery\, where artists showcase both individual pieces and collaborative works. Each group session encourages skill-building\, experimentation\, and connection.\nSince its launch in March 2023 with just nine artists\, Art From Within has grown to include 20 artists across three groups\, each of which meets monthly to create\, learn\, and grow together. Bell\, born on Christmas Day\, 1902.\nThrough the legendary William J. Bell we reflect on our heritage and honor all great artists and teachers whose legacy has given us high performance standards\, well structured pedagogy\, professional integrity\, personal values and a camaraderie envied by all other instrumentalists.\nThe first TUBACHRISTMAS® was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday\, December 22\, 1974. Traditional Christmas music performed at the first TUBACHRISTMAS® was arranged by American composer Alec Wilder who ironically died on Christmas Eve\, 1980.\nWilder composed many solo and ensemble compositions for tuba and euphonium. He was a loyal supporter of every effort to improve the literature and public image of our chosen instruments. SUMMARY:Earth and Blood: Ceramic Works by Josh Perry
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to welcome everyone to join us at the West Edge Factory’s Turret Gallery for ceramic artist Josh Perry’s first solo exhibition!\n\nJosh’s work uses clay\, sculpture\, and installation to explore how people are shaped by the systems around them—such as war\, belief\, disability\, and social expectations. His pieces reflect on harm and healing\, asking how we carry our past experiences and how change becomes possible. The work is grounded\, physical\, and honest\, inviting viewers to slow down and spend time with each object.\n\nAccessibility and adaptation are central to Perry’s practice\, influencing both how the work is made and how it is experienced. His art considers memory\, trauma\, and resilience without offering easy answers\, instead creating space for reflection and conversation.\n\nThe opening reception will be held Friday\, February 6 from 6–9 PM\, with the gallery open for viewing throughout the evening.\n\nThe event will also include a poetry reading from 6–7 PM and live music by Sam Eplin.\n\nLight refreshments will be provided.\nThis event is free and open to the public\, and all are welcome.\n\nArtist Bio:\nMy work reflects both collective failure and the possibility of redemption. As a U.S. Army veteran shaped by injury\, addiction\, incarceration\, and recovery\, my creative practice is rooted in lived experience. After serving as a combat engineer and sustaining service-related injuries\, I became addicted to prescription medication\, leading to felony convictions and two years in one of Colorado’s worst prisons. There\, I discovered the transformative power of art through a graphic design program that helped me confront my past and imagine a different future.\n\n\nAfter release\, I continued studying design\, expanding into ceramics and sculpture. My practice now examines societal structures\, war\, belief\, disability\, and the systems that marginalize others. Developing adaptive methods due to my disabilities made accessibility integral to my work. Through installation\, sculpture\, and digital processes\, I explore trauma\, memory\, and the cultural conditioning of violence. After having received my BFA from Marshall University\, I am now working to complete my MFA at Vermont State University’s Vermont Studio Center program. \nSee less

DESCRIPTION:ReCreate Appalachia presents an incredible Recovery Month exhibition featuring mixed media works by Kevin Allison.\n\n“For the Hope of It All” opens in the Turret Gallery of West Edge Factory during our September First Saturday Art Market. Come check out the exhibition\, then enjoy the food\, music\, and art vendors at the market!\nKevin will be on site from 2-4 pm for a meet and greet!\n\nArtist Statement by Kevin Allison:\nI was born and raised in the Chemical Valley of West Virginia. My father was manufacturing Agent Orange at the Monsanto plant in Nitro when I came along\, and I attended a high school with walls that sealed airtight in case of a chemical leak. Nitro and the surrounding areas are known as the “Chemical Valley” for its massive production of explosives\, chemicals\, and propellants. This was my childhood playground. It may be that my views on nature and life in general are vaguely skewed by this environmentally exciting upbringing. At the very least\, I still have a continuing love affair with the color orange.\n\nI’m a lifelong West Virginia resident\, and a Marshall University School of Fine Arts graduate\, with a focus in studio painting. In my brand of storytelling\, I combine multiple techniques to explore our culture. I use unconventional materials such as encaustic paint\, cold wax and found objects in my collages. In the fashion of our forebears (and other fauna)\, I cobble together a little bit of this\, and a little bit of that. Sometimes a lot more of that.\n\nMy assemblages explore the complexities of our Appalachian lives\, one layer at a time. I like to think I’m creating unique monuments to life in our wild and wonderful state.\n\nI’ve always had a sensibility for seeing beauty in decay. I’m surrounded by hollers\, relics\, and ghost towns. There’s discarded treasures all over the hard ground. I choose to utilize those discarded bits because I feel there’s a spirituality and a constant truth present in the things we choose to leave behind. I have found great inspiration in forgotten spaces.\nDuring my years of homelessness and active addiction\, I kept a journal and sketchbook. In 2023\, my recovery began\, and I utilized those items as inspiration for a new series of work.\n\n“For the Hope of it All” is a visual representation of my journey through homelessness and addiction.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, October 3 for another night of live music at West Edge Factory as part of ReCreate Appalachia’s First Saturday Concert Series.\nThis month we’re welcoming Huntington’s own Chocolate 4-Wheeler\, who describe themselves as “a psychotronic horror show.” If you haven’t seen them before\, expect a loud\, weird\, high-energy show that’s the perfect fit for spooky season.\nOpening the night is the Buffalo Elementary Garage Band\, a group of young musicians who have been putting in the work and are ready to kick off the evening with a great set.\nMake a day of it! Spend the afternoon at our October First Saturday Market from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM featuring Appalachian artists\, makers\, food trucks\, buskers\, free art activities\, the Haunted Holler exhibition in the Turret Gallery\, and more.
