Bell\, born on Christmas Day\, 1902.\nThrough the legendary William J. Bell we reflect on our heritage and honor all great artists and teachers whose legacy has given us high performance standards\, well structured pedagogy\, professional integrity\, personal values and a camaraderie envied by all other instrumentalists.\nThe first TUBACHRISTMAS® was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday\, December 22\, 1974. Traditional Christmas music performed at the first TUBACHRISTMAS® was arranged by American composer Alec Wilder who ironically died on Christmas Eve\, 1980.\nWilder composed many solo and ensemble compositions for tuba and euphonium. He was a loyal supporter of every effort to improve the literature and public image of our chosen instruments. In a community workshop setting\, artists come together to explore themes through clay\, printmaking\, mosaic sculpture\, and a wide variety of 2D painting and drawing mediums.\nThe program runs annually from March through December and culminates in a public exhibition held in the Turret Gallery\, where artists showcase both individual pieces and collaborative works. Each group session encourages skill-building\, experimentation\, and connection.\nSince its launch in March 2023 with just nine artists\, Art From Within has grown to include 20 artists across three groups\, each of which meets monthly to create\, learn\, and grow together. DESCRIPTION:Indigo dyeing began in India 3\,000 BCE. It spread through the Silk Road to Greece and Rome as a luxury good. Blue colorants were rare and very valuable. It had spread to China and Japan by the 6th century. \nNow indigo dyeing is coming to West Edge on November 8 for an afternoon workshop. You will learn how to set up a vat. We will dye a silk scarf and a cotton scarf. We are using Living Blue indigo grown in Bangalsesh on small farms and will use an earth friendly recipe. \nCome and join us!

DESCRIPTION:An absolute must-see highlight of our Tiny Art Exhibit at West Edge Factory is a collection of three Zeitgeist Houses by artist Ellie Schaul. \nThe Zeitgeist House Project began in 1984 with the purchase of a handcrafted dollhouse from a church yard sale. Ellie invited artists she had collaborated with through the years as Director of The Art Store in Charleston to contribute original miniature works. By 2014\, the house had become a full miniature museum. Ellie later added two more houses—one built from scratch and one reworked from another dollhouse. \nTogether\, these three Zeitgeist Houses contain nearly one hundred tiny\, intricate works of art. \nEllie Schaul is one of West Virginia’s most enduring artists\, and we are thrilled to host her work in the Turret Gallery and welcome her for a special artist talk about these unique miniature museums. \n🎨 Join us at 1:00 PM on Saturday\, July 19 for this free\, public talk!🖼️ See Ellie’s work as part of our Tiny Art Show featuring 17 other artists.🛍️ Enjoy the Mini Art Market happening next door from 11 AM–4 PM.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the first day of spring with Appalachian Reuse Hub (ARH) and Huntington Art Collective and Studios (HACKS) by doing some decluttering and gathering of items and materials you no longer want or need and bring them to West Edge to trade\, donate\, and swap! \n  \nThis can be anything\, from clothes and books to smaller and bigger items alike. We will also be collecting materials for ARH to use in free community upcycling workshops- think arts and crafts materials that are good for creative reuse! We can always use these reusable materials\, such as paint\, brushes\, magazines\, ribbon\, etc. There will also be a collage station set up for your upcycling pleasure.
